Planned Parenthood videos

I agree with Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina and Cynthia Allen that everyone should view the Planned Parenthood videos to learn the reality of abortion. (See Allen’s Friday column, “Fiorina urges viewing of videos to learn the reality of abortion.”)

However, those same viewers, and especially Fiorina and Allen, should also view a video of a woman getting viciously raped, of her drunk husband beating her to a pulp, of an inner-city street corner filled with despondent kids, of a cell block of young men who were raised by a single parent and of the execution of one of those children who has grown to adulthood and become a vicious criminal because of a lack of education, lack of healthcare, lack of parenting, a diet based on food stamps and easy access to the millions of handguns.

Trying to shut down Planned Parenthood is definitely not the answer.

And abandoning government’s responsibility to provide all of its citizens with an environment where a kid has a chance is as hideous as the videos you ask us to watch.

Videos shot in secret. Were these videos edited? We do not know.

I can secretly shoot a video of a person, then edit it to have that person saying “it’s raining” when the sun is actually shining.

Have a subcommittee meet for a short period to view the unedited videos. Have the people who made the videos, as well as the Planned Parenthood participants, all under oath, available to comment.

If the evidence shows that Planned Parenthood did sell fetal tissue, refer the case to the FBI for prosecution. If the evidence shows that the videos were doctored to create a false impression, refer that for prosecution.

Simple. Why has this not been done?

I’m growing increasingly weary of reading Cynthia M. Allen’s columns that consistently ignore facts to make specious right-wing arguments.

Allen ignores that Planned Parenthood is not a “peddler of unborn baby parts” and that the videos made by Center for Medical Progress have consistently been proven to be highly edited to send a biased anti-choice message.

It would be nice to see the Star-Telegram start running other columnists of all stripes who find facts a less malleable commodity.
