Why this female Texas OB-GYN is thrilled about a second Donald Trump presidency | Opinion
America needs a strong jerk
As a female OB/GYN in Texas, I could have let plenty of issues drive my vote. I told many people during this campaign that you may not like President-elect Donald Trump and might even think him a jerk. But ultimately, he is our jerk.
And that is what America needs — a strong leader who will stand up to foreign powers and fight to protect our interests at home. (Nov. 8, 1A, “Takeaways from Trump’s march back to the White House”)
The president’s gender, race, ethnicity and personal beliefs should not matter. I am not opposed to a female president, but I thought Vice President Kamala Harris’ behavior was more appropriate for a giggly cheerleader or a grumpy old nurse than a world leader.
If we are going to have a female president, the parties need to put up a candidate whose gender is not an issue.

The main reason is obvious
It bothers me to have to write this, but the main reason Donald Trump won this election is that our country has too many racist, sexist and undereducated people. The United States is not even in the Top 10 of the best educated countries in the world.
Trump has stated, “I love the poorly educated.” (Aug. 22, 2019, 9A, “Education is not the enemy”) And we see now why he would want to get rid of the U.S. Department of Education.

Still believing the 2020 Big Lie
Here’s a test for Mark Davis’ rosy view of the near future. (Nov. 8, 9A, “Some things Democrats might like in Trump’s second term”) Will Donald Trump pardon the rioters convicted of felonies in the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot? If he does, will Davis still believe Trump is a defender of the Constitution and rule of law?
The fact that Davis writes of “a questionable 2020 result” after four years of proof that the election results were valid shows you he is still in the thrall of the “Big Lie.”

Harris catered only to a minority
What Democrats failed to see is that hating Donald Trump isn’t enough to win an election. Their presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, catered to those who pushed for gender treatments and millions of people who are in the United States illegally.
She failed to listen to those in her own party who were firmly against these issues. Those same issues drove Republicans to the polls.
I hope the Democratic Party henceforth will listen to its majority, not a very, very small minority. I am hopeful to see common sense on both sides of the aisle.

The big reason they live in fear
“I live in fear” was your scary Sunday front-page headline about illegal immigration.
You know, they broke the law and are here illegally.

Putting faith in promise breaker
Trumpers, you won. You believed Donald Trump’s lies, promises, racist statements and boasts, and now he is going to be your savior. Trump got what he wanted: the ability to retaliate against all those he deems his enemies.
If any Trumpers expect their lives to become better or the border to be closed or all migrants deported, or if any of you Christian conservatives look forward to forcing all your ideals upon America, I have some oceanfront property in Arizona for sale.
Since he lied to get elected, what makes you think he will keep his promises to you?
