Yes, Fort Worth has talent. Let’s keep our money with workers who already live here
No reason you can’t go vote
If you can stand in line for banking, grocery shopping, home stores, sporting goods stores, liquor stores and event ticketing, you can stand in line to vote. Stop the falsehoods about voting being promoted by the socialistic left, television news and distorted claims on the internet.

Worthy doctors kept out of club
The Star-Telegram reported recently that not a single Black physician has been nominated for, let alone received, the Tarrant County Medical Society’s Gold-Headed Cane Award in its almost 70-year history. (Aug. 2, 1A, “Failure to honor Black doctors draws criticism”) The award recognizes a physician who symbolizes “the pursuit of the highest standards of scientific excellence and integrity.”
The Fort Worth medical community historically has had a wealth of extraordinarily talented Black physicians who surpass the requirements for inclusion in the decision-making process to receive this honor, yet not one has been nominated.
Systemic racism kept Black patients sequestered in the “Negro Ward” in the St Joseph’s Hospital basement. Black doctors were grudgingly allowed participation in the Texas Medical Association and the Tarrant County Medical Society.
If the award is the product of a private club, so be it. But strip away the pretense and retire it as a relic of the past.

A disconnect from the truth
Tuesday’s column by David Brooks was incredibly poignant. (11A, “When a heart is empty”) President Donald Trump, for whom I voted, has demonstrated a personality that is morally and intellectually challenged.
It’s not hard to believe that he said the things about military men and women recently reported, given his penchant for saying whatever comes to his mind. Whether he lied about the pandemic or said what he said because he didn’t want to panic the public, it’s not hard to believe he did so for the wrong reasons.
Presidents before him have lied. Barack Obama lied about Obamacare. Lyndon Johnson lied about Vietnam. Richard Nixon lied about, well, you name it. The difference appears to be that they knew they lied. Trump doesn’t seem to know the difference between truth and lies.

Keep money in Fort Worth
In Wednesday’s story about a California company moving to Fort Worth, the city’s economic development director said, “Other companies will say, ‘OK, I think I can move my operations here because Fort Worth has obviously shown it has the talent.’” (1A, “Fort Worth lures second California company with $1M incentive pitch”)
If Fort Worth has so much talent, why doesn’t the city invest in its own people? The million-dollar incentive package could have been used on Fort Worth-born entrepreneurs who don’t cater to tourists but to local needs, or it could have helped restore neighborhoods instead of to gentrify them.

Aviation workers need help
I‘ve been an American Airlines flight attendant for 13 years. This pandemic is the worst crisis ever to hit the industry. Congress passed the Payroll Support Program to save jobs and stabilize our industry. It has been our lifeline. Thousands of jobs will be lost if Congress does not extend the program soon.
Aviation is essential to a strong economy, including here in North Texas. Extending the program has broad support, but it can happen only if Congress and the White House negotiate and pass a stimulus bill.
Washington: Do your job so I can do mine.
