If Obama were still in charge, he would be treated so much better

Words are losing power

Accustomed to hurling insults such as “Lyin’ Ted” Cruz, our pathological president nevertheless struggles to find one for his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden. “Sleepy Joe” just hasn’t caught on, given President Donald Trump’s own tortured meanderings.

In Kenosha, Wisconsin, the president tried radical ideology to deflect from the cause of the protests. But Trump works to destroy American institutions, such as free and fair elections, so his ideology must be labeled radical.

Later, asked whether systemic racism is a problem, he did not address the question. Maybe he can’t define that two-word phrase, either.

Democrats are to blame, period

The cities and states swept by violence, looting and destruction have largely Democratic leadership. Criminals are not being prosecuted, often not even arrested, and if they are, they are immediately released.

Yet, according to Thursday’s column by Dana Milbank, it’s all President Donald Trump’s fault. (10A, “This cornered president is trying to foment a race war”)

It makes no sense, but some of your readers will read this garbage and think it’s true.

Trump deserves all the credit

Thanks to the priority President Donald Trump placed on its development, we may be close to a coronavirus vaccine that will have passed all appropriate trials and screening protocols and be available in record time.

But those who hate the president cannot even be thankful and optimistic about the situation or give the president his due. If President Barack Obama were responsible for this, the same people would have praised him as the savior of all mankind.

Nonpartisans can see all that Trump has done to combat the virus.

Don’t stonewall on ID cards

Why does the Texas Department of Public Safety require such a long wait to obtain a driver’s license or identification card? I had to travel to Georgetown as part of my effort to get a commercial learner’s permit.

Gov. Greg Abbott’s shutdown of driver’s license offices is wrong. He should prioritize those trying to get commercial licenses so people won’t have to travel and even pay for hotel rooms.

Social Security is in peril

President Donald Trump has begun implementing a plan designed to kill Social Security. Everyone needs to express outrage.

By executive order, he has implemented a payroll tax deferral to the end of year. This is the tax that funds Social Security. Employees and employers will still owe the unpaid taxes. Trump has indicated that if he is re-elected, he would abolish the taxes owed, thereby sending Social Security into insolvency beginning in 2021.

This is a disgusting plan to kill a program critical to all seniors and people with disabilities.
