Of course the Star-Telegram didn’t give Trump his due for UAE-Israel deal

Respect? Don’t look at Trump

President Donald Trump’s first response to Joe Biden’s choice of running mate Kamala Harris was disrespectful, calling her “nasty” and referring to Sen. Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas.” This is just another demonstration that he has no concept of the meaning of respect, especially with regard to women.

Paid no respect to Trump

Where was the most important and most consequential international news reported in Saturday’s Star-Telegram? Page 7A. (“Israel and UAE strike deal with Trump’s help”)

The United Arab Emirates and Israel agreeing to normalized relations will be a huge benefit to the people of both countries and the entire Middle East.

The tone of The New York Times piece in the Star-Telegram was set by the characterization of previous contact between the countries as “clandestine,” as if it were an evil thing.

This wording and story placement is an obvious effort to bury any story that could be construed as helpful to President Donald Trump.

The post office is a vital service

I am incensed by what is happening at the U.S. Postal Service: The removal of postal drop boxes, the removal and destruction of sorting machines, new regulations regarding overtime, the Friday night firing/reassignment of top-level employees.

These actions are a deliberate attempt to slow the mail and make it impossible for people to reliably vote by mail. This is shameful.

I am a senior citizen, and I have voted absentee for many years. Now, for the first time, I lack confidence in my ballot being counted.

We need to make it easier, not harder, for people to vote — especially during this pandemic.

- Judith W. Stempel, Fort Worth

I don’t trust election officials

I see the Democrats are getting desperate when they accuse the U.S. Postal Service of trying to curtail voting by mail. I am more confident in the U.S. Postal Service handling its responsibility than election officials substantiating the legality of ballots.

An education is optional

To all the students complaining about Texas colleges opening too soon, I have a solution: Stay home.

The last I checked, attending college wasn’t a state requirement, and writing a letter to a newspaper expressing your fears doesn’t really help.

- Jeff Murray, Weatherford

Not dangerous to vote in person

I am going to be 80 next week, and if I — along with millions of others — can go to the grocery store, out to eat, and some can even go to protests, then we can go vote in person. If you can’t, then apply for an absentee ballot.

If you’ve been out and about, worn your mask and social-distanced, the supposed risk of the coronavirus in voting is hogwash. I’m so tired of politicians on the left telling us they know what’s best for us.

Inform yourselves, ponder what you read and do what’s right.
