There is no excuse for yet another roadblock to Panther Island project
Panther Island is plenty vetted
Thursday’s front-page story, “Board members urged to ignore allocation for Panther Island study,” states: “The Trump administration has been unwilling to prioritize Panther Island without a cost-benefit analysis, but local officials have said a study of the project’s economic viability is not needed. They argue Congress OK’d the project in 2016 without calling for a study.”
Much of the federal and local funding for this project has been voted upon, approved, bonded, allocated and appropriated. But it now sits in limbo because of a unilateral White House decision.
The Panther Island project has not been derailed by any member of Congress or any malfeasance or mismanagement by local officials. It has been arbitrarily halted by the Trump White House.
So how can any Fort Worth voter continue to support President Donald Trump?

Sign me up for this one, MLB
I have found my new calling. Major League Baseball is hiring COVID-19 compliance monitors — moms, essentially.
Did you wash your hands? Did you use soap? You cannot spit. The mask has to cover your nose and your mouth. Sanitize now. High fives are not allowed. I said six feet apart. Don’t make me say it again. I swear if you don’t stop that, I’m coming in there. No bars. You really need to make better decisions, or I’ll make them for you.
This job was made for me.

Protests mean nothing to me
Perhaps Mac Engel is correct that pro sports leagues don’t care what you think about players kneeling during the national anthem. (Aug. 6, 1B, “Pro sports leagues not concerned by protest backlash from fans”)
But for Engel to say, “It does not matter whether or not you like it,” is a drastic overstatement. If that attitude were prevalent at another time, we could all be speaking German, or perhaps there would not be a Civil Rights Act in place today.
As a veteran, I really don’t care what these kneelers have to say. They have picked the wrong time and background to say it.
If people have gripes about America, bring them forth. But not as spoiled, wealthy athletes disgracing our flag and country and as self-righteous mouths who hide behind social media and, in most cases, have never served this blessed country.

Not tending to his flock
What a failure of Fort Worth’s responsibility to protect people from sickness and death in allowing Kenneth Copeland Ministries to host the Southwest Believers’ Convention recently without following Gov. Greg Abbott’s coronavirus executive orders on indoor gatherings. (Aug. 7, 1A, “Copeland’s religious expo exempt from COVID-19 rule”)
Hundreds to thousands of poor, misinformed people wandered around the central business district with no masks or social distancing, secure in believing what Copeland proclaimed in March when he told COVID-19 to “get off this nation.”
This is the man who told his believers that they would be guilty of murder if they failed to vote for Donald Trump.
