When school is back in session, we must do more for teachers

Cruz, Cornyn not doing their duty

Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn should be ashamed for leaving Washington without passing another relief package. Republicans in general, and Cruz and Cornyn in particular, have repeatedly proved how little compassion they have for their constituents.

The HEROES Act passed the House and was on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s desk before July 4. Why aren’t senators passing a bill with money for public schools, unemployment help for millions and funding for states and cities?

What does it really mean?

Many people support equality for all. But a number of people, corporations, sports teams and groups are using the slogan “Black Lives Matter” without understanding the platform of the Black Lives Matter movement, which involves more than racial equality.

Be careful before you chant or adopt a popular slogan. Research and confirm what the slogan represents before you let it represent your values.

Let’s talk about what’s ‘fair’

Any parent who divides a cake among children knows that cries of “no fair” will immediately follow. So why aren’t additional federal unemployment benefits being extended? That money will go right into local economies and help keep struggling families and businesses afloat.

Reckoning fairness at a time when neither the COVID-19 pandemic nor the service sector shows signs of improving seems counterproductive and so small-minded.

Not the American way

What will it take for people such as a Sunday letter writer to realize that placing federal troops in a city over the objections of the mayor and state governor is an action by a dictator?(4B) The letter writer said the only people complaining are the mayors of a few cities who watch helplessly as unidentified, uniformed federal agents haul off their citizens in unmarked vehicles?

Where is the usual conservative fear of big government?

An honor to the area

Washington Monthly has named John Peter Smith Hospital the best hospital in the United States. What a great tribute to Tarrant County.
