Right on, Mark Cuban. Ted Cruz’s political games are tired, and on taxpayers’ dime
Don’t slow down the testing
I love sports and truly miss them, but there is a shortage of COVID-19 tests. Labs take a while to return results. Meanwhile, sports teams are tested every day or every few days. Think how many more people could be tested and get their results quicker if these tests were not clogging up the works.

Cruz’s politics on our dime
Mac Engel’s column Tuesday about Sen. Ted Cruz’s spat with Mark Cuban was spot-on. (1B, “Mavs owner Mark Cuban slams Sen. Ted Cruz”) As taxpayers, we give Cruz a cushy salary, the best medical care and a bountiful pension. While he attacks an American citizen with different political views, the job he swore on a Bible to do goes undone.
Elected officials need to learn to work together for the good of the country, not just for their party and getting reelected.

Texas GOP needs new focus
Regarding Tuesday’s front-page story, “Texas Republicans say their No. 1 focus now is to re-elect President Donald Trump”: If the sole reason for the Texas Republican Party is to re-elect the worst president ever, then I must become an Independent voter.
I’ve voted Republican my whole life, but I cannot in good conscience vote for this man or support a party that follows him like sheep. He is destroying the country with his lack of leadership.

Put off school for now
I’m reading about the quandary school administrators face: Start school on schedule, delay the start, have in-class instruction, go completely online or combine online with in-class instruction. That’s not to mention when or if sports should begin.
Let’s postpone school for one year. No more worries about when to start. Seniors do not lose their senior year. Athletes do not lose a season of competition.
After all, online instruction is marginally effective and might even be counterproductive.

No sense in our reactions
Where is the outrage over the results of this pandemic, the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths? Where is the outrage over the lack of national leadership to push common-sense strategies such as wearing masks, social distancing and avoiding unnecessary indoor activities? Where is the outrage over the White House discrediting medical experts such as Dr. Anthony Fauci?
This tragic reaction to the pandemic didn’t have to happen.

Police aren’t earning trust
The National Association of Police Organizations has endorsed President Donald Trump. It’s in response to being called to account for racist, brutal behavior revealed in citizen videos.
The Fort Worth Police Officers Association recently shared the endorsement via Facebook.
If the Fort Worth police want to build trust among Black people and those who stand with them, this is not how to do it. This is a big middle finger to all who voted to defeat the nearly $1 billion police slush fund — a vote not to defund the police, but to redirect spending to help the whole community.
I doubt I will ever trust a Fort Worth police officer again.
