President Donald Trump is taking charge with the coronavirus

A demonstrator in Dallas put a tear gas canister in a plastic trash bag to keep it from affecting other demonstrators May 30. The demonstrators protested police brutality follow the death of George Floyd while he was being arrested my Minneapolis police.

A clear private sector failure

What typifies our for-profit health care system more than a hospital corporation (Baylor Scott & White) laying off 1,200 employees during a pandemic? (May 27, 7A, “Baylor Scott & White to lay off employees due to coronavirus”)

- Dennis Novak, Fort Worth

Trust Trump to right the ship

Doesn’t it trouble any of you that Joe Biden went into hiding for 2 1/2 months when the pandemic hit? If he becomes president and another pandemic strikes, would he retreat into the White House basement? It doesn’t portray a very strong, healthy leader if he is that afraid.

Will superpowers such as China and Russia play on this vulnerability?

I say stay the course for another four years with President Donald Trump. He will bring back a robust economy for all, just like he’s done these last three-plus years.

- Donna Bierd, Keller

Give benefit of the doubt

Police killing unarmed black men and women foments hate throughout the nation. Do these officers not realize they are not only taking a life but are also putting the populace in danger?

Violence in one direction can inspire violence in another direction. My plea to Minneapolis police is to try to be fair even when it seems unmerited. This can save lives.

- Frankie Andrew, Willow Park

Time to bring in military

Anarchy is defined as absence of political authority or coherent principle. Its goal is active resistance and terrorism against the state. Anarchism may fly under several different flags, but make no mistake: Its leaders are nationally organized.

It’s no accident that assaults, burning, looting, shooting and civil disruption occur in many major cities simultaneously. It takes only a spark to set off hysterically unruly mobs, and they are ready. President Ronald Reagan said this country will never fail from without, but it could fail from within. We must establish control.

Call out the Army if necessary. We cannot lose our country.

- Bruce Jacobson, Fort Worth

It didn’t happen here

What do Dallas and other major cities have to do with the recent Minnesota incident? It did not happen anywhere but in Minnesota.

One police officer committed a wrongful act, and certain groups assume that entire police forces nationwide are responsible. It makes no sense.

- Don L. Eidson, River Oaks

How can this still go on?

George Floyd should be alive. He was murdered by the very officers who took an oath to serve and protect. One killed him while two others looked on. Being black is not a crime. It does not make someone less of a human being.

Why, in 2020, are we still treating black men and women with less dignity than white people? Why do we allow armed white men and women to protest at capitol buildings but do not allow a black man to kneel at a football game? Why do we assume the worst of people because of their skin?

I’m just so, so angry at the blatant racism in our country.

- Kerry Walthall, Fort Worth

Why did this tip the scales?

Your May 28 issue included a front-page article headlined “Man credits God for discovery of injured man in car.” While I am happy that the injured man was found and treated, I am not sure this required front-page placement, except possibly for the opportunity to prominently feature “God.”

If the headline had been “Man credits coincidence (or chance, Manitou or Vishnu) for discovery of injured man in car,” I wonder if it would still have been on the front page.
