Millions of hydroxychloroquine users say it’s fine for them
My name is on that ballot
Am I the only person concerned that to participate in mail-in voting, Texans must sign the outside of an envelope? That envelope passes through hundreds of hands.
Am I supposed to assume that they belong to people who are all honest enough to not grab a copy?

Let us inside nursing homes
My wife is in a nursing home, and I have not seen her for 68 days under Gov. Greg Abbott’s declaration banning family members from visiting nursing homes.
I question whether this restriction is necessary to keep residents safe. On an average day, probably 50 people work at the home, none of whom goes into isolation after leaving. So there is a pretty fair chance that one of them will bring the COVID-19 virus into the nursing home.
On most days, there’s only a handful of visitors, so banning them eliminates only a small percentage of non-residents in the home.
Please contact the governor and request that he make a plan for family members to visit their loved ones in nursing homes. The severe emotional distress of separating these families must end.

Go to the head of the line
To Mac Engel on Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s push for audiences at live sporting events: Right on, brother. Let Patrick put his money where his mouth is and sacrifice himself for the greater good. (May 19, 1B, “Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick should be the first fan back”)

A distant new hookup
When bars open Friday, here’s the first pickup line I suggest guys holler at the girls sitting 30 feet away: “Wanna blow this joint and take separate cars to my place? You won’t believe my collection of Willie records and hand sanitizers.”

Don’t do this piecemeal
With contact tracing proving to be an inevitable piece of the plan to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 infections, the federal government must take the reins. A patchwork of states contracting third-party agencies would mean countless private entities gathering your personal, private information.
Whom are they hiring? Is the information being used for the right purposes? Is there government oversight? With whom is your personal information being shared?
Let’s have one federal agency, not hundreds of private entities, do the job.

Drug is fine for others
Who knew we had so many doctors in this country? You can’t turn on TV or look at a paper or website without someone telling us how much they know about COVID-19 and what is best for us.
On hydroxychloroquine, millions of people have taken it for decades, but now it’s not safe for our president to take. If you have traveled to Africa, you might have taken this drug to prevent malaria.
As far as I can tell, no one has been given this drug willy nilly. It’s prescribed by a legitimate doctor, and patients are monitored.
