Come on, “Bizarro” comic strip. Don’t go for laughs with a Jesus joke

They are our heroes, too

People have been hailing heroes, but one group has been left out. It is time to apply the label to those who pick up our garbage every week. After all, where would we be without the people who take on this job? Please thank them for their hard and lasting work.

Faith leaders’ shocking statement

Sunday’s letter from local clergy leaders is beyond belief. They state: “As Fort Worth faith leaders, we believe that every life is precious to God.” Aren’t babies part of “every life”? Shouldn’t these clergy lead their faithful to God’s way of life?

They state: “Let us not demonstrate judgment and derision toward women, but empathy, support and love.” How about the same for soon-to-be children?

A bizarrely unfunny comic strip

We read the comics every day. I love “Bizarro,” but not Monday’s. (5B) How disappointing and disrespectful to Jesus Christ. This was not even remotely funny.

Tarrant County needs to know

Why are the residents of Tarrant County not getting regularly televised COVID-19 updates? I see updates nearly every day from Dallas, yet we are not hearing any information from county Judge Glen Whitley, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price or Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams.

I don’t understand why. COVID-19 exists in Tarrant County, too. Ignorance is not bliss. If we want people to shelter in place, they need to know what is happening, and they need reminding to avoid becoming complacent.

I have great respect for these three leaders, but when will they step up and keep us in the loop?

Open more stores back up

Have you seen the crowds at the big-box stores? In addition to selling groceries, Walmart and Target are now the only places to purchase everyday household goods. Where else can you buy shoes, shirts or makeup? Right now, there are few options. This puts more people in these companies’ stores.

I suggest opening other stores, such as DSW, Belk and Ulta Beauty. This would spread the shoppers to more stores, meaning less crowding, and put some folks back to work.

These stores could implement the same social gathering guidelines as Walmart and Target with a lot less crowding.

A look with different eyes

What a breath of fresh air and a ray of sunshine to read Mac Engel’s column Tuesday. (9A, “Coronavirus era, as seen through the eyes of the family dog”) This was the best, most uplifting piece of writing I have read in a long time. Thanks, Mac.

Time has come to vote online

Bay Scoggin’s Wednesday column, “Texas must allow absentee voting if coronavirus continues,” (15A) suggested that mail-in voting should be extended to everyone in Texas. It’s time to begin offering online voting to everyone who is registered. The technology exists to provide secure and accurate online ballots.

Just about everyone has access to a computer now. The census form sent to every household contained a unique identifier. This same technology could be used to enable every registered voter to receive a secure and unique ballot.
