If the Cowboys want to win, Jerry Jones should look at the Chiefs

Maybe Jerry Jones just doesn’t want to win.

Cowboys, get some Kansas City style

Cheers to the Kansas City Chiefs and their ownership for showing a lot of class. Maybe the Cowboys could learn a little from Chiefs owner and CEO Clark Hunt.

We know that’s not going to happen as long as Jerry Jones thinks he’s the smartest football guy in the room.

Maybe the problem is not the coach.

Let me run down the list of issues

A Jan. 23 letter to the editor said we should get beyond the impeachment and should “try respecting the president.”

How can we respect a man so disrespectful of women and who constantly lies, uses vulgar language at his rallies, dismisses concussion injuries to our soldiers as insignificant, discusses cutting our Social Security benefits, actively promotes his businesses while serving as president, gives big tax cuts to the wealthy, believes Russian President Vladimir Putin over his own intelligence agencies — and is certainly no one we would ever want as a role model for our children?

Clinton is a big symptom

Hillary Clinton recently said that no one in Congress likes Sen. Bernie Sanders. But no one can dispute the huge crowds he draws everywhere, so she obviously means that no one “important” likes Sanders.

When Clinton was a presidential candidate, she mocked the Occupy Wall Street movement at a big Goldman Sachs fundraiser. “Important” people were in that room. Ordinary, taxpaying voters aren’t important to her or the rest of the Washington, Wall Street and corporate insiders. They make the decisions that rule our lives, and we’re supposed to pony up April 15 with smiles on our faces.

Some of us are fed up with her ilk and really like Sanders because he doesn’t give lip service. He actually speaks for us.

Senators, be loyal to constituents

A Feb. 1 letter to the editor labeled Sen. Mitt Romney as the reincarnation of Benedict Arnold. (13A) Romney was elected by the people of Utah to serve and advocate on their behalf. He was not elected to be loyal to Donald Trump or any other president. The president is not the nation.

Romney is obliged to be loyal to the United States, not Trump.

The tiresome pejorative hung on Romney tells us that some of our neighbors may have already abandoned our system of government for something more like what we might find in China or Kazakhstan: dictatorship.

You saw it. Now will you act?

The whole world witnessed the murder of justice in the U.S. Senate on Jan. 31, with the vote to not hear testimony from witnesses.

What are you gonna do about it, America?

The press is an essential foundation

It was disheartening to read my Wall Street Journal and be informed that famed investor Warren Buffett is selling his newspapers. Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett’s firm, is “famous for hardly ever selling any of its operating businesses,” The Journal reports, asserting that this is an admission he views the industry as unsustainable.

It has been a long struggle for an industry our country can’t afford to lose. Freedom of speech is begging for an answer and a way out of this quandary.

What about these heroes, too?

Yes, the death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven others was tragic, especially to the sport of basketball and all sports fans. Granted, Bryant was a class act and a role model for many.

But I disagree with those calling him a hero. Heroes are our military, police officers and first responders.

When a member of the military, a police officer or a first responder is killed in the line of duty, it might be reported in the paper or local news. If it is, you hear about it one time. They deserve more time and effort.
