Cowboys players really want to win. But the coaching ...

We still have the militia today

The writer of a Jan. 21 letter to the editor concerning the Second Amendment (9A) needs to understand that gun owners, NRA members and any gun advocate are today’s militia, as were the patriots of the past. They are the counterbalance to any government, tyrant or foreign power trying to invade or take over this nation.

If I coached the Cowboys, I’d ...

If I had tattoos, there would be a blue star inked on my bald head reading, “2019, the year of the dream.” I watched the AFC and NFC championship games and I didn’t see one of the super-talented Cowboys there.

If I were coach, my starting players would play every preseason down. Nothing ensures commitment like 100% daily participation. After a couple of Super Bowls, players would pay me to play for the Cowboys. Many players are desperate to win.

Let’s double down on refugees

I was flipping around TV stations and noticed the movie “Casablanca” about to begin. I wonder when Gov. Greg Abbott and the GOP will have the movie banned from Texas libraries and public schools.

Since they no longer welcome refugees, this film classic seems out of place here.

If we can’t see, how can we judge?

The refusal of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his complicit GOP cowards to bring forward all documentation and allow testimony of pertinent witnesses reminds me of the film “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.” To paraphrase: “Witnesses? Documents? We don’t need no stinking witnesses or documents!”

What we have is a corrupt cover-up of truth and facts in this important trial.

The ballot box can settle this, too

If Sen. John Cornyn needs help deciding how to vote in the impeachment trial, here is some advice: Either vote to remove this cancer from your party, or we will vote to remove you from Congress in November. It really is that simple.

Bloomberg bucks will lead to socialism

Why is there no control of donations to campaigns? Michael Bloomberg has said that he has spent a fortune to help left-wing Democrats win a U.S. House majority and take over Virginia. He plans to do it again in the next Senate election.

If he buys his way into the presidency, Congress would pass bills to move the United States to socialism. The FBI should investigate.

The big picture says keep Trump

As I witness the impeachment debacle, I use the word “myopic.” More people than ever are singularly focused and consumed by one such issue.

President Donald Trump’s violations are no more worthy of impeachment than any other president’s. Climate change will not devastate the world in 10 years. Fracking is not destroying our water. The world has significantly reduced extreme poverty. There are fewer genocides than in the long view of history. And in the U.S., our economy is strong, general health is improving and racial equality is better than ever.

We should always strive for improvements, but as Voltaire warned, don’t let perfection be the enemy of the good. Don’t be myopic.
