We need to get this impeachment business behind us and respect Trump

Stop impeachment and respect Trump

Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats had their say on impeaching the president. Now, it seems she wants to rule how Senate Republicans do their job.

Enough already. Please just get this behind us and try respecting the president. Let him do his job.

Keep ‘flying saucer’ downtown

Boo to the powers that be for planning to destroy yet another landmark, the Fort Worth Convention Center arena. (Jan. 21, 1A, “Nostalgia for ‘flying saucer’ arena grows”) It can be revamped.

Obviously, someone cares more about money and perceived status than what people born here want.

Secrecy a problem on other fronts

I was impressed with the concern that attorneys Floyd Abrams, Hillary Greene and Melissa H. Maxman projected for the Senate trial of President Donald Trump. (Jan. 18, 11A, “Open the Trump trial”) I agree that the process should be open to the public.

But where were Abrams, Greene and Maxman when Democratic members of the House were holding secret meetings as they formulated their impeachment case?

Senators, take your charge seriously

As a constituent of Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz and Rep. Michael Burgess, I am concerned with only two things in the trial of the president: open access to live television and radio coverage and witness testimony.

All senators should refrain from making public proclamations about their intentions to vote one way or another. They have an awesome responsibility to our nation. I urge them to do it correctly.

Pelosi is in for a reckoning

The gleeful exuberance with which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi celebrates the indelible stain on President Donald Trump will prove to be a pale footnote to her abysmal failure to derail his presidency but a lasting legacy of her tenure as speaker.

Nothing but one gigantic sham

What an embarrassment to U.S. citizens to have such partisan nonsense governing our nation. First, a sham House impeachment “investigation.” Now, a sham Senate trial.

People around the world must be shaking their heads over this assault on our Constitution and way of life. Millions of tax dollars and hundreds of hours wasted should have been used to address urgent issues such as health care, border security and our antiquated infrastructures.

The president seems to be the only one working on our behalf. Perhaps the members of the House and Senate are the ones who should be impeached.

Hand sign looks OK to me

All the hand-wringing over the young Republican who made the “OK” hand sign appears to be another excuse to play the victim. (Jan. 22, 4A, “GOP official makes white power symbol at MLK event”) I was raised with that gesture meaning “good” or “good job.” It wasn’t until progressives and the Anti-Defamation League decided it is the sign of white supremacists that it became a point of contention and was labeled offensive and racist.

Have those on the left begun running out of things to get riled up about that a innocuous hand gesture has become such a symbol of hate for them? Is the thumbs-up sign next? Everybody needs to calm down, relax and take deep breaths.
