These Texans say Gov. Abbott was right on to say no to refugees

Smart planning is needed greatly

I agree completely with the comments by Rusty Fuller, president of the North Fort Worth Alliance, in Sunday’s front-page story, “Fort Worth struggles to get a handle on traffic,” about overdevelopment of housing before roads are built.

It also applies to Fort Worth’s far east side, where stands of old growth trees are leveled for hundreds of houses on small lots. The only access to these developments is on 50-year-old one-lane asphalt roads that wear out from the heavy trucks and clog after the houses are built.

More development without prior planning and work completion is a disaster.

The Pentagon is all on board

Whoever chose Saturday’s editorial cartoon evidently didn’t catch the Joint Chiefs of Staff standing behind President Donald Trump at his recent news conferences, or didn’t care. (11A) Come on, you’re better than that.

A judge not looking out for us

Is there any way Tarrant County can rid itself of a terrible district judge such as Alex Kim? (Jan. 12, 1A, “Advocates’ access to CPS cases declines under Kim”) If it means signing a petition, I’m ready.

- R. Cargill Hall, Arlington

Many of us say no to refugees

The Jan. 14 front-page headline “Local groups disappointed with Gov. Abbott’s refugee decision,” regarding his decision not to accept refugees in Texas, is just another liberal approach like the Star-Telegram presents every day. Why not have another headline: “Local groups approve Gov Abbott’s plan”? Because there are many area residents who agree with his decision.

- Bob Cosby, Fort Worth

Abbott was right on refugees

I am shocked, saddened and disappointed at those who were shocked, saddened and disappointed at Gov. Greg Abbott’s wise decision on refugees. Think quality over quantity. Would you rather give superior services to the refugees already here (as the governor noted, 10% of all refugees who came to the U.S. the past 10 years came to Texas ) or have unmetered numbers flooding into Texas and have them receive inferior services.

Think about doctor shortages, overcrowded classrooms and the like. Think of Fort Worth’s traffic problems.

Slow but steady is the prudent way to go. Let the rest of America help Texans take the load off.

Trump is standing up for us

I constantly read and hear people not understanding how Republicans and many independents can still support President Donald Trump. Most of us know he is rude, crude, egotistical, a braggart and an exaggerator.

But we’re tired of identity politics, cancel culture, wokeness, fake outrage, blame America first and climate change hysteria. There is finally someone who is not afraid to fight the damaging liberal agenda. The impeachment farce has basically guaranteed his re-election.

- James Greer, Fort Worth

Give the winners their due

How disappointed I am with your inadequate coverage of the NFC divisional game this past weekend. You continue to delve into stories about why it took so long to let Jason Garrett go instead of covering current stories.

The fact that the Cowboys haven’t had a successful playoff appearance in years doesn’t mean you can’t cover successful teams.
