TEXRail train to DFW airport isn’t the convenience promised

Don’t want to see leftward tilt

You like to consider your newspaper to be fair and balanced, but you constantly run Kevin Siers’ political cartoons bashing President Donald Trump, you post mostly leftists’ letters to the editor and you print headlines such as “Australia burns as the planet bakes” (Jan. 9, 9A) and “On brink of war with Iran, Trump steps back.” (9A, 6A)

If not for the fact that my husband likes to read the paper and I like to work the puzzles, we’d follow our family members’ and friends’ examples and cancel our subscription.

The people who set the fires

The headline of the Chicago Tribune editorial, “Australia burns as the planet bakes,” lives up to the hyperbolic tone of arguments that claim climate change is the sole catalyst for the tragic devastation in Australia.

Completely omitted was the fact that police have accused 24 people of arson, as CNN reports.

An imperfect parallel

A Jan. 9 letter to the editor blames Democrats for ignoring the speedy trial rights guaranteed by our Constitution. (9A) The writer further claims that Senate Republicans want to conduct the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump under the same rules as President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial.

But former national security adviser John Bolton, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s private lawyer Rudy Guiliani and budget office officials were directly involved in the withholding of Ukrainian funds, and their testimonies have been blocked by the Trump administration.

The Clinton administration never blocked anyone from testifying.

So, predictably, relevant information just isn’t good enough for Republicans.

Not full speed ahead to DFW

When we heard Fort Worth was getting a train to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, we were delighted.

We’ve tried it — and it isn’t easy.

There’s no overnight parking at the stations. The train doesn’t run frequently. Arriving at DFW, you must take a shuttle or the terminal train, unless you’re flying from Terminal B.

Returning, if you checked bags and don’t arrive at B, you exit security, collect your bags, walk outside to the far end of the terminal, and then must wait for the shuttle and rattle around to other terminals.

You can’t buy a ticket in advance, and if you miss the train, you might have to wait 30 minutes or an hour.

Don’t care about killer’s past

Mac Engel and the Star-Telegram were wrong to repeat the church killer’s name. (Jan. 10, 1B, “Church gunman once an aspiring pro fighter”) Who cares about him and his past?

Is Engel hinting that kids should not participate in Golden Gloves because boxers are more likely to become murderers? And you printed his picture on the front of the sports section, too.

Wouldn’t be welcome here

More than 2,000 years ago, a mother and father crossed into Egypt to protect their baby from the murderous edict of Herod the Great. Good thing for Mary and Joseph that the governor of Egypt was not Greg Abbott. (Jan. 11, 1A, “Abbott: State will not let refugees resettle”)
