Christianity Today says Trump is immoral. Are his challengers better?

Do I smell some NFL collusion?

With Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones being neighbors in Arlington, could they have been quietly mentoring each other on how to have a winning team?

Trump’s positions the moral choice

Mark Galli, editor in chief of Christianity Today, wrote in a recent editorial that President Donald Trump is immoral and should be drummed out of office. (Dec. 21, 8A, “Christian magazine lists its reasons for rebuking Trump”) I don’t know that I can really challenge his assessment.

But are Trump’s Democratic challengers more moral? On abortion? On curtailment of religious liberties?

Maybe by comparison, Trump doesn’t look so bad.

Actions speak loudest

Recently, a well-known Christian magazine called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump, stating in part that he was immoral. I salute the editor of Christianity Today for having the courage that other religious organizations don’t seem to have.

At his rallies, Trump curses in front of women and children, disparages the dead and makes fun of the less fortunate. Based his behavior, he does not respect anyone. He never admits to being wrong about anything.

By their silence, it appears other religious leaders and organizations support the president’s behavior, no matter how gross.

Whatever happened to the Moral Majority?

We have a better Democrat out there

The entire list of Democratic candidates for president is discouraging if not outright depressing.

California recently lost the best four-term governor in its history: Jerry Brown. He is a man of utmost integrity with an honest zeal to promote excellent quality of life for all Americans.

Jerry, it’s time to throw your hat into the ring. The world and the country desperately need you to put an end to Trumpism and lead us back to a time of peace and prosperity.

- Joe Bialek, Cleveland, Ohio

Sure, it’s easy. But is it right?

President Donald Trump offers certainty in a complicated world. He can lie with impunity, as long as he does so without wavering. He comforts that part of us that wants to be told what’s in our best interest, so we don’t have to think for ourselves.

Who wants to search for complex solutions? Who wants to admit that we have to change? Who wants to compromise?

It’s more pleasurable to embrace already-developed positions — the more outrageous the better — to shout empty slogans at hate-filled rallies, to shrink from the messiness that reason demands.

What’s the problem with photo ID?

The argument that a photo identification requirement suppresses voting is specious. There are so many instances where ID is needed, and multiple forms are accepted.

You can’t fly without ID, drive without a license or cash a check in most cases without ID. You might not be able to use a credit card or see a doctor without photo ID.

Voting is our most important tool to ensure our freedoms. Requiring a photo ID is not a step too far. I don’t believe there is massive voter fraud, but I have no problem showing my ID.
