Republicans and Democrats alike should want a fair trial for Trump in the Senate

If we don’t hear from them …

We need a fair trial of President Donald Trump in the Senate.

We need to hear from Trump’s acting White House chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, who admitted to a quid pro quo on national television and ordered the holding back of military aid to Ukraine.

We need to hear from Rudy Giuliani to find out why he is working on foreign policy without an official government role or security clearance.

We need to hear from former national security adviser John Bolton, who didn’t want any part of this.

If Senate Republicans rush a trial with no witnesses, they are complicit in the alleged cover-up of this president’s crimes.

Either side, hold them to account

The articles of impeachment that the House of Representatives has brought against President Donald Trump put on full display the actions of both sides of the political aisle.

They use words such as “impartial,” “fair,” “constitutional” and “due process” in a noble context. However, there is nothing noble about what’s happening. It is one political side attempting to prevail over the other no matter the cost. It is partisan war under the umbrella of constitutional impeachment.

We need the press to hold both sides accountable for what they are doing.

Proof of Trump’s great wisdom

The Star-Telegram provided a service Dec. 22 with three different items.

The analysis “Fear and loyalty: How Trump took over the Republicans” got it right — unintentionally. (9A) The fact that former Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Trott of Michigan thinks President Donald Trump is intellectually unsuited says it all. Trump is generally the smartest guy in the room. Trott says he would be fine with a Michael Bloomberg presidency. This is a Democrat in Republican clothes.

The whining column by Ann McFeatters demonstrated pure Trump derangement syndrome. (4B, “How Trump really could make America great again”)

And Bud Kennedy nailed it: Conservatives are fighting mad. (1B, “In Texas, ‘people are angry ... really hot’ about Trump’s impeachment”)

Trump will lead a landslide in 2020.

No brakes lead to dictatorship

President Donald Trump has criticized our national security agencies, newspapers and TV networks. If he had his way, we would be without independent sources that report on the government’s actions.

A large percentage of politicians are afraid to speak against this president. His base has turned to the idolatry of power. If we have no one reporting on government actions and power is the primary goal instead of defending the Constitution, we could end up with a dictator.

Greene’s columns thrive on fear

Richard Greene apparently cannot resist following the Republican Party line of spreading fears and misinformation among voters. Too bad he fails to be objective.

It’s still all about Hillary Clinton

Let’s set the record straight: The American people did not impeach President Donald Trump. It was a handful of Democrats who can’t accept that Hillary Clinton lost. They have nothing to offer the American people except higher taxes and socialist ideals.
