Trump’s impeachment shows democracy is the wrong system
Give thanks to public servants
With all the concerns we face daily, there comes a time each year to reflect and enjoy. The Christmas season is an occasion to be with family and friends and enjoy all the celebratory events that mark the holiday.
The overwhelming theme is peace to all — a difficult but very worthwhile goal.
Try making it a time of gratitude to all who protect us daily and make our lives safer by their dedicated service: those who serve in the military, law enforcement, fire and rescue and medical teams. Also remember all who govern and administer the public services that are provided daily.

Not how Americans should be led
I do not remember any president or government official blatantly threatening, insulting and criticizing a segment of America as President Donald Trump does regarding Democrats.
He is a selfish, spoiled, vindictive, out-of-touch monster. Trump is an embarrassment to America and democracy, and he should be taken from our White House in handcuffs.

Short shrift for a football great
Hayden Fry was a native Texan from Eastland who was the head football coach at Southern Methodist University for 11 years and then at North Texas State before going on to resurrect the Iowa football program.
He was certainly deserving of much more than a single-paragraph wire services blurb that didn’t even mention his Texas coaching career. (Dec. 18, 3B, “College Football in brief”)

Democracy is wrong, clearly
When our Founders formed our government, they did not want a direct democracy because they feared the tyranny of the majority. After all, a democracy is three wolves and a lamb voting on what’s for supper. So the Founders gave us a constitutional republic.
Democrats keep talking about our democracy, and they have sure shown us how the tyranny of the majority works with this impeachment. This does not bode well for the future of the country.

Sad that Hallmark reversed itself
In watching recent news reports about the Hallmark Channel removing and then reinstating commercials depicting the wedding of two women, I came to the conclusion that the company has taken the term “wishy washy” to new heights. (Dec. 16, star-telegram.com, “In reversal, Hallmark will reinstate same-sex marriage ads”)
I am reminded of the adage: If you won’t stand for something, then you will fall for anything.
Sadly, our culture suffers from the same problem.

Nobody should be above the law
President Donald Trump’s high crimes vastly exceed those of any prior president, impeached or not. Crimes were committed under the false, imperious notion, which Trump bragged about, that he can do whatever he wants under the Constitution.
It recalls Richard Nixon’s declaration to David Frost: “Well, when the president does it, that means that it is not illegal.”
Trump supporters can only yell, pound the desk, gnash their teeth, point fingers, invoke name-calling and cry, “Unfair!” This is not about “overturning the will of the people.” It’s about protecting us all from a delusional president’s tyranny.
