Attacking Brett Kavanaugh, and questioning Jon Daniels

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden is in need of $15 million in repairs. An admission fee is on of the proposals to help eliminate the repair bill. This is the conservatory, showing missing windows.

This is what I always ask myself

How much of the news nowadays is the sexual conduct, or misconduct, of elected male candidates or officials?

We are inundated with vivid descriptions of behavior that most people would want to keep secret.

Each voter has his or her own standard.

For me, the question is: “Can’t we do better than this?”

Not the way we should behave

What has happened to the people of the United States?

Why is it acceptable behavior to treat Judge Brett Kavanaugh with so much disrespect and attack his character?

Why is it acceptable behavior to call this man a rapist before the accuser has been publicly heard?

Why is it acceptable behavior to ignore the impact your ugly comments have on his family and especially his children?

We were taught to treat people better than this.

Close to the last Rangers straw

My wife and I have been season ticket holders to Texas Rangers baseball games for eight years. (We retired here 10 years ago.) The recent news of the firing manager Jeff Banister has helped us make up our minds not to renew our season tickets — and it will have a strong bearing on whether we ever attend another game. (Sept. 22, 1B, “Seeking new leadership, Rangers fire Banister”)

Rangers president of baseball operations and general manager Jon Daniels has his place secure. The team’s owners are blind to many facts but couldn’t care less as long as people keep buying tickets.

Daniels gave Banister nothing but Band-Aids to work with for the last three years. Now he says a change of direction is needed. From what?

As long as Daniels is in charge, this will be a second-class team, even with all its young talent. No new manager is going to be able to work with second- and third-class players and expect a competitive product.

Glen Rose

No confidence in Jon Daniels

What is wrong with the owners of the Texas Rangers? It’s not Jeff Bannister who needed to go — it’s Jon Daniels.

Ever since Nolan Ryan left, the team has been in the sewer under Daniels. Don’t you see the lack of acquisitions in the off-season? Do you really think you’re going to the promised land with the likes of Matt Moore, Doug Fister, Drew Robinson and Ryan Rua? Please.

It’s time the owners wake up and bring in a general manager who knows what he’s doing.

Here’s one place for Rangers to start

If the Rangers want to win back the fans, and a few more games as well, they should start by firing their general manager.

Weatherford

Let the people debate the issue

I am opposed to the recommendations to privatize the Fort Worth Botanic Garden and to charge admission. (Aug. 29, 1A, “Time may be running out to see Botanic Garden for free”)

However, no matter how you feel about it, you should be concerned that the City Council meeting where members plan to take up the issue is scheduled for 10 a.m. Nov. 6 — Election Day.

I thought the council had moved away from 10 a.m. meetings because it is difficult for people to attend.

But whatever the time of day, the date of this meeting must be changed.

Karin Cagle,

Fort Worth
