An offensive cartoon, broken politics and Willie Nelson
They aren’t polling my friends
Wednesday’s editorial cartoon by Kevin Siers of The Charlotte Observer was most offensive. (19A)
And Jennifer Rubin’s column, “’Red America’ not looking quite as red at the moment”: I don’t know who the poll takers are talking with, but it is not the common people.

Pray and act for the United States
To all politicians, especially those in Washington, D.C.:
Please stop the fussing and fighting and be humans to each other. My daughter, wife and I pray every night for you to please work together to solve our country’s problems. Our nation is falling apart. I see no morals and ethics and it’s getting worse every day.
My mother taught me, “If you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all,” and also “Judge not and you won’t be judged.” I believe we need to be more understanding and forgiving. Please remember that the whole world watches.
You need to focus on things such as terrorism, crime, gas prices, supporting our troops with better pay and the best equipment, making health care affordable, keeping our children safe, putting God back in the schools and stopping the waste of our tax dollars.
Support President Donald Trump. Help, advise and tell him your concerns, and, finally, sit down and pray with him.
Please remember you were put in office to help us — all of us — and not just yourselves. Please pray, forgive and remember to be a benefit for mankind and God. You will be greatly rewarded. Please.

Meridian
This election is about more
I have no doubt Rep. Beto O’Rourke is a good man. But this election is about our nation and not about the two candidates.
If O’Rourke is elected, he will become an obstructionist.
Significant progress has been made over the past two years with the economy, job growth, manufacturing base, law enforcement, regaining respect from our international friends and foes alike, security and more. It would be detrimental to lose the growth and progress gained, or prohibit future progress.
This election is not a popularity contest. It’s about our future. I hope we look past the media and do the research to make a pragmatic decision based on what’s best for our country.

We should all be able to disagree
Rep. Matt Krause was right to denounce the attacks on Willie Nelson simply because Nelson is supporting Rep. Beto O’Rourke. (Sept. 18, 7A, “Rep. Krause denounces attacks on Willie Nelson”)
He is correct saying Texans should be better than this and be able to disagree politically without attacking or berating those who disagree with us.

This is not a way forward
For Richard Greene to call the writer of an anonymous New York Times op-ed a “traitor” twice doesn’t help the discussion move forward. (Sept. 16, 4B, "New York Times op-ed writer who criticized Trump is a traitor plain and simple")
It simply normalizes someone calling another a traitor because they differ in politics.
That name-calling never moves America towards a more perfect union.

An obstacle that needs to be fixed
The train that crosses the north side of Fort Worth is causing a traffic nightmare on Thursdays. Traffic becomes gridlocked on both North Main Street and Northside Drive. This gridlock causes people to be late for work and school, not to mention the unnecessary stress.
The people who travel this area every day need help. There has to be some action.
There are serious repercussions one faces when tardiness accrues for both workers and students. Please help commuters in the morning.

I don’t call this justice
The news media are pandering with excess coverage of the deaths of Oshae Terry and Botham Jean.
The former appears to be because of criminal activity, and the latter a tragic mistake.
The protesters want “justice” but appear to have already decided the outcome.
