Freedom Caucus
We Republicans have not only the Presidency but also both houses of Congress, and yet we can't get anything done.
Our elected officials are too busy trying to get their faces or quotes on TV and scampering around currying favor for the next election cycle.
The various little groups such as the Freedom Caucus are ruining our nation.
Instead of voting what the majority of Americans want, they stand around holding hands, sucking their thumbs, stamping their feet and crying because the majority won't come around to their way of thinking.
They should remember they are in office to support the American people — not just a handful of losers who, if they can't have things their way, then it is simply no way.

Citizenship test
As an educator, parent and grandparent, I am appalled at the Texas Legislature requiring a “citizenship test” for high school seniors before they can graduate.
Amazingly, the State Board of Education agrees?
Eighty days of the school year already are spent on pre-testing and testing.
If citizenship is so important, why not include it in other tests already required? Why make a citizenship test mandatory for seniors even after they have passed other tests?
Lawmakers are not improving education, just making it worse.
Texas’ education system usually ranks 36th out of the 50 states even as our Legislature throws more money at it each year.
Will we soon have 90 days of testing each year to add citizenship? That will mean half of the year is taught teaching to tests and not giving students a well-rounded education they need and deserve.
Teachers, administrators, school districts and parents are continuously frustrated in their efforts by a group of uneducated members of the Legislature who know nothing about the real world of classroom work.
They are not improving education in Texas but making Texas fall farther behind.

LeBreton column
Gil LeBreton knows better than to ask whether NFL owners are so spineless that they won't hire Colin Kaepernick if that would upset some ticketholders.
Yes, the owners don't want to upset ticketholders. This is called good business practice.
Also, please spare readers the description of Kaepernick as expressing “conscience and politics.” That insults readers’ intelligence.
