Cruz and Yates; abortion, adoption; travel warning; hit-and-run

Cruz and Yates

I was disappointed as I read the overview of Sally Yates’ testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee subcommittee, as it did not mention the questions asked by Texas’ U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz. (“Yates met twice with White House on Flynn’s Russia contacts,” May 9)

Our junior senator focused very little on the connection between the Trump administration and Michael Flynn and Russia or the hacking of our presidential election.

Instead, Cruz rehashed old information regarding Hillary Clinton’s emails and grilled Yates over the executive order regarding travel from select Middle Eastern countries.

To say that Yates schooled Cruz on these matters seems kind.

However, it begs the question: Why is he still focused on events that have no bearing on the Russian influence the subcommittee is supposed to investigate?

Perhaps the voters need to remind Cruz that Donald Trump, not Hillary Clinton, is the president, and they do in fact want to know what happened between Trump allies like Michael Flynn and the Russians.

This matter cuts to the heart of our free democracy.

Abortion, adoption

It is interesting that many of our male Texas legislators decided that women do not need legal access to abortion options.

These same men are debating that those “now-born children” should not be adopted by mixed-race, disfavored-religion or same-sex couples.

If women were given the legal option of ending an unwanted pregnancy, the issue would be less pertinent. We as a society cannot have it both ways.

If any couple wants to adopt and get the child off the state payroll, where is the logic in denying that adoption?

This is about a child being given a home.

Travel warning

The American Civil Liberties Union has warned travelers about coming to Texas because sanctuary cities are no longer legal in Texas.

We don’t care what the ACLU says.

Any organization that cannot tell the difference between unlawful and lawful, that does not know that breaking the law is not a civil liberty, cannot possibly provide any useful advice.

Hit-and-run

On Nov. 27, my father, Wesley Kranz, was killed by a hit-and-run driver at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of Lake Worth Boulevard.

There were no witnesses. He was in the crosswalk when he was killed instantly.

I’m asking the public for help finding who hit my father and left him in the road. My dad deserved better than that.

I’m hoping this it will trigger a memory for someone who has any information, or who knows someone with a vehicle with damage to the front bumper, hood and/or windshield.

Please call the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office or your police department.

Jason Kranz,

Vancouver, Wash.
