Obama’s record, fair elections, Arlington MAX bus

Obama’s record

The damage from this vacuous administration is substantial.

Worst additions to the federal debt in U.S. history. Blatant and palpable corruption in every nook and cranny of the federal government. More promises broken than kept by Obama’s team. Spinning, twisting, cover-ups and outright prevarication made truth in short supply for these past eight years.

Economic conditions have been negative and declining from day one. But do not expect this president or any of his staff or federal department heads to take responsibility for any of this mess to our ship of state.

Bold and arrogant, narcissistic and dithering, this swamp does need draining, and badly!

Robert R. Kurz, Fort Worth

Even with Republican opposition, Obama’s record is:

Economic recovery from our “Great Recession”; stock market up 200 percent since February 2009. Unemployment at 5 percent; 72 months of increased jobs; property values up 14 percent in Fort Worth this year.

Abbreviated the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, with bin Laden killed. Muslim nations are leading the fight against ISIS. Our patriot death rate has been reduced from 50-100 per month to about four in last two years.

Opened relations with Cuba, so we are free to travel there. US cruise ships have started visiting there, while Republicans resist raising the embargo.

A climate change accord with definitive goals for all nations, while conservatives continue denial and Trump says it’s a Chinese plot.

Increased Veterans’ Administration budget three-fold to improve veterans benefits.

So Obama gave us relative peace, relative prosperity and world accords instead of the previous president’s war, deep recession and fear; with Trump’s walls and fear of foreigners.

Steve Hadley, Benbrook

Fair elections

Maine and Nebraska are the only two states that cast their electoral votes in the same proportion as the popular vote and not winner-take-all.

These two states have the only fair elections.

In the other 48 states, those who cast their votes in opposition to the majority have their vote thrown out!

How can we call ourselves a democracy with this system?

Are we not supposed to be “one man, one vote”?

This is a glaring defect in our voting system and should be changed to promote harmony and equality in our democracy and greater acceptance of the results.

Marcelle Borgers,

Fort Worth

Arlington MAX bus

Once again you interject yourselves into something you have no business in and you give no good reasons why Arlington tax money should be spent on this money pit! (“Keeping MAX best route for Arlington,” Tuesday editorial)

Your only reason is because UT Arlington students need it.

That is not our problem.

They knew when the came from India or Bangladesh or wherever that there was no public transportation.

If UTA wants it for their students, let them pay for it.

If UT Austin can pay a football coach $25 million, they can pay for transportation for their students!

James Garrett,

Arlington
