Capitol monument
Could someone please explain why we have built a monument to black Texans, erected at our state Capitol, using $1.5 million in state funds? (“Main pieces of monument to black Texans put into place,” Wednesday)
If this is to celebrate their achievements, I thought the black community wanted to be treated as equal citizens, so why celebrate them as being special?
I don’t think we have a monument celebrating the achievements of the white Texans.
Also, why is there a Texas Legislative Black Caucus? Do we have a White Caucus? Just wondering.

Refugee costs
Has anyone calculated how much it will cost the taxpayers in Texas to support Syrian refuges?
I do not believe that the taxpayer is aware the refugees will be given healthcare, housing, food stamps and stipends for living expenses, business loans, jobs and will collect these benefits whether they need them or not.
Many of the refuges have money, and yet we have homeless Americans who are in need, middle class children who are hungry, older Americans who live in poverty, veterans who fought for these Syrians who cannot afford health insurance and/or housing and who live and die on the streets in their birth nation.
Veterans die waiting for healthcare at VA hospitals.
Is it not time to take care of our own using the limited resources we have? How many millions of dollars will this cost over the next year? 10 years?

Clueless Democrats
The clueless Democrats are now patting themselves on their backs for Hillary Clinton’s debate performance, believing that “knowing the issues” somehow translates to votes.
They misunderstand that with today’s electorate, one good schoolyard insult resonates far better than actual solid policy positions.
Clinton can speak endlessly on detailed foreign/domestic policy and draw nothing but blank stares from the crowd. In response, Trump can call Clinton a “doo-doo-head” and people jump to their feet in thunderous applause

Two-party system
The stranglehold that our two-party system has on elections in this country has placed us once again in a position where those of us who believe in honesty and respect have no place to go except to a third party, knowing our vote will be thrown away.
Far to the right zealots and tax-and-spend liberals have run conservatives with a social conscience out of both parties.
My vote goes to Gary Johnson, who is honest enough to admit he smokes pot and doesn’t know what Aleppo is.
Remember when Bill Clinton said he smoked pot but didn’t inhale?
In my opinion, both major party candidates should be in jail.

Infidelities
Trump has been threatening to bring up Bill Clinton's infidelities.
If he does, he will open up all the histories of womanizing and infidelity of not only him, but also Rudy Giuliani, Newt Gingrich and many more men in and out of the political arena.
It will become open hunting season on all the infidelities reporters can dig up and expose. The media will have a field day.
