North Texas should be proud.

Swimmer Katie Meili, a Fort Worth Nolan Catholic graduate, competed and placed in the 2016 Summer Olympics this week.

The Colleyville native won bronze in the 100-meter breaststroke, an impressive feat for this first-time Olympian.

But also impressive was how she handled the controversy surrounding her event.

A last-minute entry of a previously banned Russian competitor made some people angry — namely gold-medal winner Lilly King — but Meili took the high road.

“At this point, we just have to focus on ourselves and not worry about it too much. I’m here to swim my race and not anyone else’s,” she told Star-Telegram reporter Charean Williams.

Even if some believe that Meili was cheated out of a silver medal, her accomplishments are nothing short of amazing.

Congratulations to Meili for her Olympic medal.
