Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is dead set on playing the superhero, swooping in to save Fort Worth from its school board and the superintendent the board hired to improve education in our schools.

Butt out, Radioman. Your mouth won’t run our town.

Patrick has convinced himself that guidelines signed by Superintendent Kent Scribner in April are not what Fort Worth wants when it comes to how transgender students are treated. He insists Scribner must resign.

No, Radioman. Fort Worth doesn’t want your interference. Scribner has solid plans for helping students learn. Leave him to it.

Patrick insists if Scribner doesn’t resign, the board should fire him or the Legislature must take control: “The parents are going to look to us.”

Radioman, we look to our school board and our superintendent. You’re distracting our efforts to make our schools the best they can be.

Patrick has fanned flames against transgender students. This week and next, school board members are holding public forums to listen to their constituents.

Radioman, these aren’t “sham hearings.”

Our board is capable of improving the guidelines if necessary, while still standing behind our superintendent and our kids — all of them.
