Mark Cuban? What kind of reality show is this?
Mark Cuban for president?
Is this real life or another Sharknado sequel?
Never in anyone’s wildest dreams would the Dallas Mavericks owner be on national TV in late May talking about a political campaign, much less on NBC’s Meet the Press.
Yet he was there Sunday, offering himself as a running mate. He is entertaining the idea, or at least enjoying the notoriety.
Cuban did not vote in either party primary, according to Dallas County records. So he is eligible to run as an independent candidate for president, or as the vice presidential nominee for any party.
It is not completely unthinkable for either party to draft an independent business leader in a year when both parties are crafting appeals to nontraditional and downright contrarian voters.
But why Cuban?
His ego might not be as big as that of Republican nominee-apparent Donald Trump. But that may be partly because Cuban is younger. He still has time to ascend to Trump’s level of self-importance.
Cuban would bring business acumen, and his celebrity role as a star of Shark Tank.
But is reality show stardom really what we want in a president of the United States?
Never mind. Don’t answer that.
Just say we have already filled our celebrity quota.
