Restaurants, take note of breast-feeding debacle
Restaurants should pay attention to West Side Cafe’s breast-feeding faux pas and make a mental note to not tell a breastfeeding woman to cover up.
The Texas Health and Safety Code says it is legal for women to “breast-feed her baby in any location in which the mother is authorized to be.”
So unless we have a serial breast-feeding trespasser on the loose, moms can breastfeed anywhere. Even at a table of a popular restaurant. Even if she doesn’t cover up.
It’s the law.
But just in case someone in your establishment slips up and forgets the law, restaurants should also pay attention to how West Side Cafe handled the situation.
The owner, Tracey Sandford not only apologized to the woman who was told to cover up while breast-feeding at his restaurant, he created a new policy so there won’t be any more confusion and welcomed the upcoming “Nurse-In.”
Because of his actions, Saturday’s “Nurse-In” will be more of a pleasant event than a political movement.
Well done.
