The latest enrollment numbers for the University of Texas at Arlington add up to strong continued growth.

UTA reported this week that a record 38,650 students are enrolled for the spring semester, up 6 percent from a year ago.

And this is important: Those are what the university calls “Texas-based” students. That’s opposed to “degree-seeking” students, a term that also includes those in online degree programs, who can be just about anywhere in the world.

Add the online students and the enrollment number for UTA this spring climbs to 50,661. The university said it expects that number to grow to 55,000 this year when new online nursing and education degree programs are added.

UTA’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation grew 16 percent from last spring, making it the largest source of trained nurses in Texas and third-largest in the nation.

The College of Engineering grew 13 percent from last year and is the third-largest engineering school in Texas.
