Think twice before pulling out the gun
Texas Wesleyan University has a tough decision to make, one that cannot be made lightly.
In the wake of Gov. Greg Abbott signing Senate Bill 11, the “campus carry” bill, into law, private universities, like Texas Wesleyan and TCU, are feeling the pressure. They must decide if they will follow the new law or opt out, banning guns from campus.
The “campus carry” law will allow concealed handguns in campus buildings.
Before the new law takes effect in August 2016, the university is required to have campus input before reaching a decision. TWU President Fred Slabach hosted an open forum to hear students weigh in on both sides of the issue.
Slabach needs to make sure he truly understands the pulse of the campus before making any decisions, and he must make sure students and faculty feel comfortable when the law takes effect.
