A special thrill from Trevone Boykin
Trevone Boykin said only three words, but the look in the TCU quarterback’s eyes says much more.
“What’s your name?” Boykin asked 7-year-old Abby Faber, an Iowa child with cerebral palsy on the field as a “kid captain” for charity before the TCU-Iowa State game Saturday in Ames.
As captains from both teams gathered around the tiny girl in a wheelchair, only Boykin crouched to her eye level and spoke with her. She replied only, “Abby,” but the Heisman Trophy candidate later posted a photo of her on social media with the comment, “It’s bigger than a game/I love touching young [people’s] lives. #GodIsBigEnough.”
Abby, born premature and only 1 pound, 13 ounces at birth, has been smiling and saying, “I’m famous.” Her mother, Jenny, said she appreciates Boykin’s words to Abby, even moments before a must-win game.
Boykin threw for 436 yards and four touchdowns, another remarkable day in a remarkable season. But that photo will be most remembered.
