Hey @GregAbbott_TX, mind your Twitter feed

Gov. Greg Abbott is really good at Twitter.

His political comments are candid, and his quips are funny if sometimes painful. (Last week, he tweeted that the Dallas Cowboys’ defense is “more porous than the Texas border.”)

But not everybody on his staff has the same timing or touch, and that embarrassed him Monday.

A staffer using the official state government account, @GovAbbott, tweeted “Congrats to the @Astros on advancing” with two innings to play in the Houston Astros-Kansas City Royals playoff.

The Royals rallied, and Abbott wound up distancing from the office comment by tweeting from his own account, @GregAbbott_TX: “Hey @Astros fans. … Follow the real Greg Abbott right here.”

Unlike many politicians, Abbott himself tweets and retweets on that account. During the Legislature, he even used Twitter to send not-so-subtle messages about bills.

His use of Twitter is a valuable asset to state government, but he could give staffers some lessons.
