FWISD designee in a hurry
Kent Paredes Scribner, the Phoenix educator designated by the Fort Worth school board to be the district’s next superintendent, isn’t waiting for his formal hiring before getting some hands-on experience here.
Scribner attended the district’s annual convocation/pep rally for teachers and other employees Friday and was on hand to help greet parents and students at Diamond Hill Elementary for the first day of classes Monday.
“I can’t wait to get started,” he said Friday. His enthusiasm is infectious, part of what prompted Fort Worth trustees to select him Aug. 12 from a field of seven finalists whittled down from 67 applicants.
Trustees are scheduled to vote on or after Sept. 1, the end of a state-mandated 21-day waiting period, to complete the hire.
Scribner looks like a good hire, but let’s not forget the details — like his contract, for example.
He’s paid an annual base salary of $282,000 as superintendent of the 26,000-student Phoenix Union High School District. Advertising for the job in the 86,000-student district Fort Worth district said it would carry a salary in the $300,000 range.
Scribner caught our attention, but we still want to see his contract.
