Wellness fair has new venue on Saturday
Springing from a city-sponsored community assessment 17 years ago that showed a need for broader healthcare services, the Hispanic Wellness Fair has become a popular annual event attracting thousands of people.
The goal is to provide health screenings and information to people who cannot afford or otherwise do not obtain regular medical care — and in the process break down barriers and build trust between those people and medical care providers. The event targets the Hispanic community but is open to everyone.
This year’s event is set for 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the Forest Hill Civic and Convention Center, 6901 Wichita St., near the Tarrant County College south campus. The new venue provides space for private screenings.
Adults can get vaccinations; mammograms; cancer, diabetes and cholesterol screenings; body fat analysis; pregnancy tests and hearing tests. Children are offered vision screenings, vaccinations and school physicals. Dental health education and spinal screenings will also be available.
