Annual tax holiday here soon

With temperatures hitting 100 degrees this week, it feels like summer is beginning to hit its stride.

Getting back to school is probably the furthest thing from most Texans’ minds — especially for those 18 and under.

But Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is reminding everyone that the Lone Star State’s annual sales tax holiday is coming up fast.

Parents need to mark their calendars if they intend to save cash on back-to-school supplies, clothing and footwear for the rapidly approaching fall semester.

From Aug. 7 to Aug. 9, state law will allow consumers to buy a variety of items priced under $100 without the added expense of sales tax.

According to the comptroller’s office, that saves consumers about $8 for every $100 spent during the holiday weekend.

While that sounds like pocket change to some, it can add up quickly. Statewide, shoppers will save an estimated $87 million.

More information about the weekend is available at TexasTaxHoliday.org.
