FWISD: Get the hiring done
Consider these dates:
June 2, 2014.
July 3, 2015.
In the 13 months between them, the Fort Worth school district has been without a permanent superintendent.
To be fair, the district did offer up a finalist this year.
For reasons too great to enumerate, the attempt to install him at the helm of the 80,000-plus-student district was an utter failure.
“We know what went wrong,” board member Judy Needham told Star-Telegram reporter Yamil Berard.
“We’re going to fix it.”
It’s hard to have confidence in the board’s ability to do so.
The good news is that the school board is under new leadership.
Jacinto Ramos, unanimously selected as the board’s president this spring, has promised to build consensus among his colleagues and not rush to make statements without the board’s consent.
That’s an encouraging development, since division within the board has had a lot to do with the delay in finding a new superintendent.
Now it’s time to get on with the hire.
