As our need for public transit grows, so does our concern about how transit dollars are spent.
That’s why a bill awaiting action by Gov. Greg Abbott is so important to taxpayers and transit patrons in North Texas.
House Bill 283 by state Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Frisco, would require The T and Dallas Area Rapid Transit to post online video of board meetings.
It’s been more than 20 years since the Fort Worth City Council began televising its meetings, but The T has provided video only intermittently.

Spurred by Dallas newspaper editorials calling for more oversight of DART, Fallon included all transportation authorities in his mandatory video bill.
Also required to post video: city councils serving more than 50,000 people, including eight cities in Tarrant County; county commissioners serving more than 125,000 people; and school boards serving more than 10,000 students, including 10 in Tarrant County.
Online video promotes not only transparency but also trust.
