Gov. Greg Abbott kept his promise by signing a bill that clearly puts the state in control of regulating hydraulic fracturing.
The new law will prohibit cities from doing what the residents of Denton did last November when they voted to make their city the first in Texas to ban fracking.
After passage of the ban, the city of Denton was sued by the Texas Oil and Gas Association and the Texas General Land office.
While done in the name of protecting property rights, the Legislature in passing House Bill 40 was clearly working in the interests of the oil and gas industry, and not the average resident.
