Protests at Northwest ISD
It is understandable that many parents in the Northwest school district are upset about a “novel” written by a middle school student that includes graphic sexual content and violence, including the names of fellow students as victims.
The eighth-grade author of the story, which was posted online, was withdrawn from Tidwell Middle School as some parents filed police reports with local authorities, according to WFAA/Channel 8.
There was more angst, however, when the writer returned to school after spring break. This week many parents showed up at the Northwest ISD school board meeting insisting that the student writer not be allowed back on campus.
The student’s actions occurred off campus without the use of school property and did not meet the standards of criminal or delinquent conduct, and the Tarrant County District Attorney’s office declined to pursue charges.
There is little more the district can do.
