What a cool move by these FWPD officers
In his 95 years, Fort Worth resident and World War II veteran Julius Hatley has certainly seen a lot — including his share of sweltering Texas summers.
But when his air conditioner stopped working, the prospect of passing the hot months to come without any relief went from daunting to dangerous.
The temperature inside his home was close to 90 degrees when Fort Worth police Officers William Margolis and Christopher Weir responded to a 911 call from Hatley in early June.

Instead of giving him instructions on how to keep cool in the summer months, the officers promised Hatley they would find a solution.
Boy, did they.
Later that day, they returned to Hatley’s home with a brand-new air conditioning unit — purchased with their own money plus contributions from Home Depot employees who helped them select it. They helped Hatley install it and have since looked into helping him repair his central air conditioning, as well.
Hatley said he appreciated the gesture.
And we can all appreciate a story that reminds us of the many positive interactions between police and citizens.
Cool move, FWPD.
