Warm weather ahead for North Texas before rain, storms return next week. See when
A warm weekend is ahead for North Texas, but forecasters say rain chances could return in a bigger way over the next several days. The National Weather Service expects highs in the upper 80s and low 90s this weekend, with a slight chance for isolated storms with possible hail.
Next week could bring a wetter stretch of weather, as storm chances increase across the region. Here’s how the forecast is shaping up.
North Texas weekend forecast
Friday, May 15 is expected to stay warm and windy across North Texas, with a low chance of isolated showers in the evening that could cause thunderstorms. Highs on Friday could range from the upper 80s to mid 90s, including around 91 degrees in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Warm and breezy weather is expected to continue through Saturday and Sunday, with afternoon highs remaining in the upper 80s.
National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Stalley said storm chances this weekend remain fairly low, especially before Sunday evening.
“The storm chances are only about 10% for Sunday evening, so it looks fairly unlikely. But if we do manage to get this storm developed, it’ll be coming pretty strong with possible hail,” he said.
Stalley said North Texans should plan to bring an umbrella this weekend in case weather conditions quickly change.
“If you have outdoor plans this weekend, especially on Sunday, just keep an eye on the forecast so any isolated storms don’t catch you off guard.”
North Texas weather forecast for next week
Temperatures are expected to stay around 90 degrees Monday and Tuesday, but Stalley said there’s a high chance for severe thunderstorms.
“The main days will be Monday and Tuesday, but we could see some scattered showers and maybe isolated storms linger into the second half of the week as well,” he said.
A cold front will arrive late Tuesday and bring temperatures down by 10 degrees.
“It’ll cool us down enough for the second half of the week, while we see some more scattered shower and storm chances around afterward,” Stalley said.
After the front moves through, highs are expected to cool closer to the low 80s Wednesday through Friday, with storm chances around 20 to 30%.
“This wet weather pattern is typical for May in Texas. This is our most active time of year for rain and severe storms,” Stalley said.
