Flooding possible in North Texas as rain returns to forecast. Here’s the latest
Before rain returns to North Texas this week, there will be a chance of record-breaking and/or tying temperatures.
Over the weekend, the Metroplex broke a heat record on Nov. 15 with 89 degrees, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. The previous record was 87 degrees, recorded in both 1955 and 1960.
Conditions will be sunny and warm in the mid-80s on Monday, Nov. 17, according to the NWS. The forecasted high is 86 degrees, which is just one degree below the hottest temperature ever recorded (87 degrees) on that day back in 2013.
A better chance to break the temperature record is on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The forecasted high is 86 degrees, which would be three degrees higher than the previous 83-degree record set in 1973, according to NWS data.
The forecasted high on Wednesday, Nov. 19, will be 82 degrees and is not expected to break the 87-degree record set in 1950. As storms arrive Wednesday, cooler temperatures will stick around for the rest of the week.
Rain returns midweek
Widespread showers and storms will arrive in North Texas early Wednesday and continue into early Friday, Nov. 21.
Heavy rainfall and localized flooding will be possible with these storms, according to the NWS. The greatest coverage of storms will be all day Thursday and overnight.
A few of the storms may become strong to severe Thursday, and widespread rainfall totals will be 1 to 2 inches through Friday. Some isolated areas could see up to 4 inches of rain, according to the NWS.
