After one more day of bitter cold, North Texas set to warm up by 50 degrees Sunday
Get ready, North Texans — warmer weather is on the way, after a bit more freezing temperatures Friday.
The cold will continue through the night of Friday, Feb. 21, but North Texas temperatures will start to rise starting Saturday, Feb. 22, according to the NWS Fort Worth forecast.
Friday night’s temperatures will drop below freezing in areas where skies are clear, mostly for folks along and north of Interstate 20. The D-FW area will go from 37 degrees during the day Friday to 27 degrees Friday night. Rain chances will start to move south, to Central Texas.
This past week’s weather set temperature records for North Texas. On the morning of Thursday, Feb. 20, the NWS weather station at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport recorded 12 degrees, which broke an 86-year-old climate record. Previously, the lowest temperature ever recorded on Feb. 20 was 19 degrees in 1939.
Warmer weekend ahead for North Texas
Saturday, Feb. 22 will see the D-FW region get back up to sunny skies and highs in the upper 40s before dropping down to lows in the mid-30s at night, but still above freezing.
Sunday, Feb. 23 will finally bring a much-needed warm-up to the D-FW region, with sunny skies and highs in the lower 60s and light winds coming in from the south.
The warm temperatures don’t stop there — the week of Feb. 23 will see temperatures with highs in the low-to-mid-70s throughout Wednesday.
