Arctic front bringing up to sub-zero wind chills, possible wintry mix to Fort Worth next week
An arctic cold front will plummet temperatures, bringing a possibility of negative wind chills and a chance of wintry mix to North Texas early next week.
The front will move through North and Central Texas on Tuesday, Feb. 18, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Scattered rain and a few storms are likely ahead of the front’s arrival.
Temperatures will be in the upper 40s during the day Tuesday, plummeting to the 10s and 20s that evening.
Cold temperatures will be in the forecast from Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 20, with daily highs only in the 20s and 30s, according to the NWS. Gusty northern winds will lower wind chills between -10 degrees and 10 degrees during the Tuesday to Thursday stretch.
Will North Texas see snow next week?
Possibly. Rain could change to a light wintry mix late Tuesday into Wednesday, Feb. 19.
However, meteorologists at the NWS said they are uncertain if this will occur, and that forecast confidence is low as of Feb. 14. Over the next few days leading up to the event, they will have a better picture on what will occur.
As of now, the NWS is certain that North Texas will see cold temperatures and “dangerously low wind chills” early next week. As such, they’re encouraging folks to remember to protect the four P’s: people, pets, pipes and plants.
