Will Tropical Storm Francine impact Dallas-Fort Worth? Here’s what to know
The National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical storm that is forecast to become a hurricane when it makes landfall this week.
Tropical Storm Francine is moving through the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to become a hurricane when it makes landfall along the Texas and Louisiana coastlines Wednesday. The storm’s path will move north through Louisiana and up into Mississippi later in the week.
Since the storm’s path will skirt through southeast Texas, the North Texas region isn’t expecting much impact, said Allison Prater, National Weather Service Fort Worth meteorologist.
There could be a few rainbands (rainfall that is stretched out in a line) over Central and East Texas due to the storm, Prater said. In Dallas-Fort Worth, there’s a 20% chance of storms Wednesday.
Much of the impact from Tropical Storm Francine on Wednesday will be along the southeast Texas and south Louisiana coastlines.
The National Hurricane Center is forecasting heavy rainfall and a risk of flash flooding for these areas over Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
