After a sweltering August, Dallas-Fort Worth is starting September rainy and with cooler temperatures.

The North Texas region recorded 15 days over 100 degrees last month, en route to 23 total days over triple digits this year, according to National Weather Service Fort Worth data.

However, September is already off to a rainy and cooler start, said Jennifer Dunn, NWS Fort Worth warning coordination meteorologist.

Many North Texans woke up to rain Tuesday morning, which will stick around for most of the day. Tuesday will be the coolest day of the week with temperatures in the low 80s, Dunn said.

Rain will start tapering off late Tuesday into Wednesday, with scattered storms in the mix for most of North Texas. High temperatures will increase on Wednesday to the upper 80s.

Scattered storms are also possible Thursday, but the best chance of rain will stay east of the Dallas-Fort Worth region, Dunn said.

Cool weekend ahead for North Texas

With rain chances tapering off towards the end of the week, North Texas will have a dry and cool weekend.

Temperatures from Friday to Sunday will be in the upper 80s to low 90s, Dunn said. Here’s the full 7-day temperature outlook for the region:

  • Tuesday- 81 degrees
  • Wednesday- 88 degrees
  • Thursday- 90 degrees
  • Friday- 90 degrees
  • Saturday- 88 degrees
  • Sunday- 87 degrees
  • Monday- 89 degrees
