UPDATE: Be prepared for temperatures up to 110 degrees Monday night
The NWS Fort Worth TX issued an updated excessive heat warning at 7:05 p.m. on Monday. The warning is for Montague, Cooke, Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Young, Jack, Wise, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Delta, Hopkins, Stephens, Palo Pinto, Parker, Tarrant, Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Rains, Hood, Somervell, Johnson, Ellis, Henderson and Navarro counties.
Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 108 degrees and temperatures up to 110 degrees anticipated for portions of north and northeast Texas until 9 p.m. this evening.
"Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," says the NWS.
This warning is in effect until 9 p.m.
NWS Heat Wave Safety Tips: Stay safe with these recommendations
• Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids.
• Find cool shelter: Stay in an air-conditioned room.
• Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
• Child and pet safety: Do not leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
• Be mindful outdoors: Take extra precautions when working or spending time outside.
• Optimal Timing: When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
• Recognize early indicators: Learn to identify the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
• Dress comfortably: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
For a safer outdoor work environment, follow the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)'s guidance by scheduling regular rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned places. If anyone shows signs of heat illness, promptly move them to a cool, shaded area. In an emergency, call 911.
