UPDATE: Heat advisory anticipated to expire at 8 p.m., says the NWS

The advisory was for Montague, Cooke, Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Young, Jack, Wise, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Delta, Hopkins, Stephens, Palo Pinto, Parker, Tarrant, Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Rains, Hood, Somervell, Johnson, Ellis, Henderson, Bosque, Hill and Navarro counties.

"Drier air behind an incoming cold front will keep heat indices across North Texas below advisory criteria tomorrow. The Heat Advisory for North Texas into northern Central Texas will be allowed to expire on time at 8 p.m. this evening," says the NWS Fort Worth TX.

The advisory is in effect until 8 p.m.

During heat waves, consider the following tips from the NWS

• Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids.

• Stay in an air-conditioned room.

• Look out for others: Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

• Protect your little ones and furry friends: Never leave young children and pets alone in vehicles, especially during hot weather when car interiors can become dangerously hot in a matter of minutes.

• Be cautious outdoors: Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.

• Consider the timing: When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

• Recognize early indicators: Learn to identify the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

• Dress for comfort: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing to stay cool.

To minimize risks during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises incorporating frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If someone experiences heat-related symptoms, promptly relocate them to a cool and shaded spot. In case of an emergency, dial 911.
