Cold front bringing rain chances and less heat to Dallas-Fort Worth. Here’s when
A cold front is on the way to Dallas-Fort Worth, bringing rain chances and cooler temperatures.
The North Texas region has recorded eight days over 100 degrees this year thus far, per National Weather Service Fort Worth data. While it’s been warm, this summer has been slightly cooler compared to previous years.
A cold front will make its way over North Texas on Wednesday, NWS meteorologist Patricia Sanchez said.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across the region on the back of the front, which will arrive Wednesday afternoon. Additional storms will develop over Wednesday evening for areas east of Interstate 35 and south of Interstate 20.
The main threats with Wednesdays storms are lightening, strong winds and heavy rain, Sanchez said.
Rain and storm chances will shift into Central and East Texas on Thursday. North Texas will also stay fairly dry on Friday, Sanchez said.
Showers and storms are in the mix for North Texas over Saturday afternoon and evening. However, the best chance of rain over the weekend is on Sunday, Sanchez said.
Widespread showers and storms are in the forecast for Sunday, with heavy rainfall possible in some areas across North Texas.
After rain on Sunday, storm chances will continue into early next week Sanchez said. Along with the rain over the weekend and early next week, temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.
